LADIES’ BIBLE STUDY
CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
FRIDAY, 3RD MARCH 2017
Introduction: Goals as a study group, discussion of books/topics of interest
Time of prayer. Pray for wisdom, clarity, sound judgement and discernment as we discuss our goals as women of God. Pray that our time would be fruitful, reverent, and Christ-exalting. Pray that our time together would cultivate and build-up godly fellowship and friendships within the Church. Pray that we see more of God, and become more like Him, as we study His Word.
Bible passages to consider as we discuss what we ought to focus our studies on:
Psalm 1:1-3 , Psalm 33:4, Psalm 119:97-108, Proverbs 19:20, Hebrews 10:19-25, Titus 2:3-5, Philemon 1:6-7.
GOALS
The primary goal for this bible study is two-fold:
1. To increase our knowledge of God, by studying His own Word; that is, the only written manifestation of who God is, written by God, preserved for us, believers.
2. That by study of God’s Word, and increasing in knowledge of our Father, we may a. love Him more, b. grow more richly in holiness and sanctification, c. obey God’s command to worship God above all else (with our heart, soul, strength and mind), and d. exalt Christ and bring Him glory.
Secondary Goal/s
For open discussion. Some questions to consider: 1. What do we want to learn about? 2. Are there any particular books, topics, themes or passages we feel ought to be strengthened in our church? In our lives as women? 3. How can we be proactive and practical in applying Scripture in our lives? And holding each other accountable also?
· Character of a godly woman – throughout the bible. What God expects of us as women – and what applies to us? Culturally?
· What cultural ‘trends’ (e.g., makeup, jewelry, clothes) are ‘okay’ for Christians to participate in – has God redeemed them? (1 Cor. 8 – food sacrificed to idols).
· Godly femininity – the heart behind Christ-exalting womanhood
· Homosexuality – how the church responds, how we as individuals respond (teachings from Scripture), look at research etc
· Book: Disciplines of a godly woman, Lineage of grace (women in Jesus’s lineage), Sons of encouragement
· Personal sharing of struggles/experiences – life in general, teachings regarding loving husbands/children. Create a culture of openness, transparency, grace and love
· Share testimony – allocate a time every so often, as people are compelled to share
Some more ideas:
· What distracts Christians from Christ/how to protect against complacency
· False teaching – why is it appealing? How can we grow and practice discernment?
· The promises of sin vs. the promises of God
· Does self-love/self-care have any place in the Christian’s life?
· How to suffer well by preparing ourselves for it now
. Is the God of the bible consistent from the Old Testament to the New?
. How do we account for sins of the Church through history? (E.g., Spanish Inquisition, the Crusades, etc)
. How should we as Christians regard non-believers, particularly in conversation?
. Hypocrisy in the Church: Are we really better than 'them'?
. Character of God as displayed in Scripture
Weekly reading recommendation: Psalm 119
Read: Romans 1:16-17 & 1 Corinthians 2:2-5
Prayer: Prayer of thanks and praise to God for His Word, which is holy and without error. Pray that His promises of joy, holiness, steadfastness, faith, wisdom and strength would entice us to know Him better through His Word. Pray for one another, for encouragement, diligence, and devotion.
